One van-load from your front door to their halls, anywhere in Southampton, and I help carry it up. From outside the city it's £35 plus £1.20 a mile. No two-hour minimum, no VAT, no hire van to return on Sunday night.
Why not just the family car?
You can — but here's what move-in weekend actually looks like.
- The boxes, bedding, desk lamp, kettle and the mini-fridge go in the van. You and your student travel in your own car with the fragile things and the goodbye.
- Halls car parks on move-in weekend are timed unloading bays and one-way queues. One van at the kerb beats three trips from the overflow car park.
- I carry to the room, not the kerb. Stairs included.
- No hire van to collect on Friday and return on Sunday, no fuel to top up, no excess to worry about.
- £35 flat. Every man-and-van firm in Southampton has a two-hour minimum, so you'd pay £60–110 for the same forty minutes.

I load at your door, drive to halls, and carry everything to the room. Meet me there or I'll message you a photo when it's in. Bank payment or cash when it's done.

SO14 to SO19 — Shirley, Bitterne, Portswood, Bassett, Woolston, Sholing, the city centre. One van-load, door to their room, I help carry. No VAT.
Pickup from outside the city
Winchester ≈ £53 · Portsmouth ≈ £60 · Bournemouth ≈ £70. Anywhere else, put your postcode in the price tool — it's the same sum.
What counts as a van-load?
Everything one student brings: boxes, cases, bedding, a desk chair, a small fridge, the bike. If it fits in the van (a 2019 Citroën Dispatch) in one go, it's one load. Two students from the same house? Two loads — ask me on WhatsApp for a price on both.
Your postcode, their halls.
The halls postcode is on their accommodation offer. Don't have it to hand? Put SO17 for the Highfield side of town, SO14 for the city centre — I'll sort the detail on WhatsApp.
The usual questions.
Can my son or daughter come in the van?
No — I carry luggage and goods only, never people. They go in your car, or by train, and their things are at halls when they get there. It's what keeps the price at £35 and the insurance straightforward.
What if the time I want is already taken?
I'll offer the nearest one I can do, by WhatsApp, before anything is booked. Requests are taken in the order they arrive, so the earlier you ask the more choice you have.
Do you know where to go at halls?
Yes — I'm in and around the halls sites all week. Forward me the arrival instructions from their accommodation email and I'll work to whatever unloading window they've been given.
Is everything insured?
Yes — goods in transit cover up to £25,000 and £5 million public liability, with Somerset Bridge Insurance and Novus Insurance. I photograph the load at your door and in the room.
What if plans change?
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before. Inside 24 hours it's a £15 callout. Move-out in June works exactly the same way — just ask.
